Marlene Catherine Cheng
Born June 4th, 1945, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, deceased Victoria, BC, June 18th, 2020.
Marlene was the eldest child of the late Robbie and Connie (MacEachern) MacDonald. She was a long-time secondary school teacher of maths, computer science, and English, a BSc, and went back for her MSc in the ‘80s. She was a talented solo singer and chorus harmonist, and especially enjoyed the music of her celtic heritage. She also loved to cook, travel, dance, learn languages, and research her genealogy. She was intelligent, joyous, generous, and gregarious, renowned for her terrific stories, and always made others feel comfortable and welcome. Marlene lit up the room.
She is survived by her loving husband Mantis Cheng of Victoria; her devoted children Liana Finucan (Allan Kilfoyle) of Kingston, and Stefan Finucan (Hallie Aichelle) of Winnipeg; her cherished grandchildren Camden and Cormag Kilfoyle, and Patrick and Jillian Finucan; her beloved siblings Dorothy Kate MacDonald, Ottawa; Bernadette (Walter) Chambers, Wells, ME.; Gregory (Marion) MacDonald, Weymouth; Ian (Patricia) MacDonald, St. Albert; Heather (Brian) Robertson, Kingston; George (Patricia) MacDonald, Antigonish; as well as numerous adored nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Marlene loved her family beyond measure.
She was predeceased by her venerated parents, Robert and Constance (MacEachern) MacDonald, and her godmother Mary (MacDonald) Vienneau, whom she treasured, along with her other aunts and uncles.
Donations in memory, and in lieu of flowers, may be made to Victoria Hospice, who were of expert and invaluable service and comfort to Marlene and Mantis. We all thank them for their knowledge and dedication.
A celebration of life will be held in future, when the family may all come together without impediment.
