Peter J. Koopman – 1948-2021
Peter was born in Zaandam, Nederland and came to Winnipeg, Canada in 1969. Within a year he was working for Westeel until his retirement. He worked out of their offices in Winnipeg, Regina and Olds where he made many friends especially on the curling and soccer teams, and golfing and once he retired, at lawn bowling.
He is survived by his wife Corrie and her children, Chris and Melani, and grandsons, Arend and Willem. By his son, Christophe and grandson, Zane. Also by his family in Holland – sister, Rineke (Cor) and her son Yoram, brother Martin (Carry) and children, Laura (Nathan) and Ruben, sister Annelies, and sister Hetty (Dinah) and daughter Robin (Bas) and daughter Megan (Corine).
Peter and Corrie enjoyed four fabulous years together on Vancouver Island until he suddenly passed away in February. He will be missed by all who enjoyed his great sense of humour and his fabulous cooking.
There will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“Whenever I think of my time spent with you,
When so many beautiful dreams have come true,
Whenever I think of how happy I’ve been
I just fall in love all over again”
My condolences to Corrie and family. I knew Peter during our time together at Westeel. A great guy. He always brightened your day.
Peter and I worked together for many years at Westeel and he was a terrific person. After Peter retired we still kept in touch from time to time. He certainly was enjoying his time in Naniamo since moving there. My heartfelt condolences to Corrie and all of Peter’s family. RIP
Corrie and family, so sad to hear about Peter, he was one of my favorite people, I first worked with him in Winnipeg and then in Regina. On a bad day I always called Pete to get cheered up with his uncanny wit and to tease him about soccer and curling. Heaven gained a great one!
Corrie – I was so saddened to receive this information today. Peter was ‘our leader’ for many years on the ice in Regina, and while we have been apart for several years, the memories remain fresh and dear. My most sincere condolences to you and your families. Peter was a good man. I am glad I had some time with him.
