Gordon (Gord) was born in Toronto, Nov 13, 1933. He was an only child and grew up in East York. He was active in sports. He met Gwendolyn Joy Barker at high school and they fell in love and were married in 1955. Following high school Gord started a career in the insurance business working for a national company and was soon transferred to Edmonton in 1956. They had 3 boys, Douglas (1958), Stephen (1960) and Bruce (1963).
Gord and Gwen were active socially and in the community and their lives revolved around life with 3 active boys. Gord was an avid volunteer. He was involved with Husky football, coached neighbourhood hockey and had roles with the Edmonton South Side Swim Club. In 1978, Gwen passed away suddenly leaving Gord with 3 teenagers.
Gord continued to work in the insurance industry moving from national companies to running a local agency and then to the Alberta provincial government in risk control.
Gord met Doreen Bauman in the early 1980s and they were active socially for many years, traveled internationally together and remained close until her death in 1998. Gord retired from the provincial government in 1992 and followed Doreen to Victoria, BC where Gord became the Risk Manager for the 1994 Commonwealth Games.
Following the Games Gord started his own insurance inspection company that he worked at until his retirement.
