HARWARDT, Siegfried (Sig)
October 18, 1949 – August 2, 2022
Siegfried (Sig) Harwardt passed away peacefully on August 2, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Diana, his sons Ryan and Patrick (Charlize), his mother Hildegard, and his brother Victor (Suzanne). He was predeceased by his father, Willibald.
Sig was born in Avendshousen, a village near Einbeck, Germany, and immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1951. They made their home in Calgary, Alberta where Sig spent a happy childhood with his family, surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. After graduating from Ernest Manning High School in Calgary, Sig embarked on a career as a sales representative in the construction materials industry. In the mid 1980s Sig and his family moved to British Columbia, first to Langley, then to Abbotsford and finally settling in the Cordova Bay area of Victoria.
Sig had a huge love for animals and was rarely without a dog by his side. After his retirement, Sig enjoyed tending to the Fish/Koi pond in his yard and enjoying the picturesque view of Haro Strait from his home. He also loved documentaries, music, cars/motorcycles, hockey, going crabbing, listening to news radio, and discussing world events with friends and family.
Sig is deeply missed and will live in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Sig’s life will be held at a later date.
