Jane Armstrong passed away on Friday November 4, 2022 at her home in Victoria, British Columbia at the age of 60.

Jane was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 5, 1962 to Robert and Ruth (nee Reid) Armstrong, and after living in Saskatoon for two years, grew up in various small towns in Saskatchewan: Melfort, Biggar, Beechy, Young and finally, Frontier – where she attended grades 8 through 12.

Jane was always surrounded by friends – she had a great sense of humour and was a loyal and generous companion. She was engaging and fun to be with, always willing to spend time listening to friends’ problems and offering solutions. She invariably found it difficult to move communities as she developed such strong connections with her friends.

Jane spent her summers swimming at the local pool, hanging out with her friends and camping with her family. In 1969, her family took an epic trip across Canada, exploring every province. There were frequent trips to visit her paternal grandparents in North Battleford, SK. and her maternal grandparents in Vancouver, BC.

After graduating from Frontier High school in 1980, Jane went to the University of Saskatchewan to study Arts. There, she met her husband, Dan, marrying him in the spring of 1984; they lived in both Saskatoon and Victoria during the early days of their marriage. Her sons, Oliver, Mason and Frank were all born in Victoria, with the older sons living in Saskatoon for a year before the family permanently relocated to Victoria in 1987. Jane was a wonderful mother to her young boys, whom she loved more than anything; she enjoyed getting into nature with them, going for walks, playing at the park and feeding the ducks, especially at Beacon Hill Park, which remained one of Jane’s favourite places until the end of her days.

After Jane’s marriage ended, she stayed in Victoria, close to her sons. She never lacked friends or companions, as her warmth and generosity were traits that stayed with her throughout her life.

Jane always had a love for children and for the underdog. Last year, when asked what she would like for Christmas, she requested that donations of food, candy and small toys be dropped at a local children’s charity.

Jane never lost her love for the prairies, for animals, for music and for nature. Most of all, Jane loved her three boys. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Jane is survived by her children: Oliver, Mason, and Frank, along with her boyfriend Cyril Manuel, her brother Bill (Kristie), sister Sherri (Tim), brother John (Annaleis) along with nieces and nephews: Anthony, Sophie, Olivia, Sienna, Aleda, and Jorja. Jane was predeceased by her father, Robert, and her mother, Ruth.

In lieu of flowers, Jane would have appreciated a donation to The Victoria Children’s Centre Society.
