It is with great sadness that we announce that Gerald Wayne Fung born on March 18th, 1948 in Vancouver, BC
passed away in Victoria, BC on the morning on March 8th, 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Loving husband of Miriam, wonderful father to Jeremy (Jenny), Joellen (Adam), and Michael (Jillian), beloved
grandfather to Isabella, Elowyn, Bayla, Ryla, and Maeve.
We would like to thank all the medical, nursing and care staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital, BC Cancer and Salt Spring Island for all their expertise, help and compassionate care of Wayne during his illness.
Wayne had many interests that he pursued wholeheartedly and made friends along the way. These included pottery, kayaking, ham radio, gardening, robotics, woodworking, aikido, electronic
tinkering, cooking, or scotch tasting.
Wayne’s curiosity, sense of humour and zest for life have been an inspiration to many. He is so loved and will be sorely missed.
Wayne was also a spiritual man. He sought greater purpose, understanding, and meaning through meditation. Wayne cultivated equanimity and showed us how to keep our hearts open and balanced, quiet and steady in difficult times.
Rest in peace Wayne, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin, friend.
Wayne was always curious about trying new things, and we connected over his love for pottery (he inspired me to take a pottery class at Trout Lake) and for woodworking. Wayne and Miriam always invited my family to their house every summer, and it was great to visit with them and catch up with what they were doing. This continued, even after the death of my dad, and Mom and I would then still be able to visit them.
