Joyce Elgersma passed away peacefully to her heavenly home, surrounded by her family, on March 28, 2024. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Henry and Ida (Dykstra) Uiterdyk and sister Marlys, and survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Winson, and their children: Del (Karen), Vince (Laure-Marie), Laura and Chad, her eight grandchildren, Charlotte, Oliver, Scott, Emmalyn, Kate, Dale, Grant and Ajax, and great-granddaughter Sunday. She is also survived by her siblings Howard (Lynda), Millie (Ken) and Leonard (Holly).
Joyce was born in Bozeman, Montana on April 16, 1944 and raised on her parents’ farm in the beautiful Gallatin Valley. After graduating from Manhattan Christian School as class salutatorian, she attended Dordt College in Iowa where she met her husband Winson. Joyce worked as a teacher until they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Winson attended Calvin Seminary and they started their family. Joyce supported Winson through several careers including pastor, realtor, developer and finally lawyer, and through several moves in Iowa, Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, until they retired to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The most important thing to Joyce was her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. What she loved most of all was spending time with her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Saanichton Bible Fellowship at 2159 Mt Newton Cross Rd, Saanichton, BC on April 19 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or the benevolent fund of Saanichton Bible Fellowship.

We were so sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. So many wonderful memories…
Winson, I am shocked. I am praying that God will show you His love and give you His comfort as He has given me upon Alyce’s passing. They were roommates during our days at Dordt and ever since, sharing a month and year of birth, and so many cherished memories. “The memory of the righteous is a blessing” (Proverbs 10:7). We had wonderful wives Winson.
Our neighbourhood will miss this lovely lady. Our love and prayers go out to Winson and all the family at this sad time.
Holding all of Joyce’s family in our prayers during this difficult time of saying goodbye (for now) until the reunion that awIts in Christ. A beautiful lady, so very loved by so many. Pastors John & Maggie
