Gloria Gladys Madren (nee Ireland), affectionately known as Beck, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on February 27, 1930, in Bracebridge, Ontario, she met George Madren in 1954, and together they built a life and home in Pickering, Ontario. In 1989, they relocated to Victoria, BC, and later spent their final years in Sidney, British Columbia.

Gloria was deeply proud of her family. She was a devoted wife to George, with whom she shared 70 loving years. Gloria was also a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her granddaughter Jenna Ireland (Jennifer) and great-granddaughter Krystal Boldo (Kaylee), who will carry on her legacy. Gloria was predeceased by her mother Margaret Eileen and beloved son, Rodger Alexander.

Throughout her life, Gloria demonstrated many talents and passions. As a young woman, she was an avid ice skater, showcasing both grace and determination on the ice. Her entrepreneurial spirit was evident in her successful ownership of a boutique, reflecting her creativity and business acumen. Gloria and George loved to go dancing to Swing and Big Band music over the years.  Gloria was the heart of her family, raising her son, co-parenting her niece and nephew, and welcoming her granddaughter and great-granddaughter into her home. Her home was always a gathering place for children, nieces, nephews, and cousins, fostering a sense of love and connection through the generations.

A lover of the water, Gloria often reminisced about her adventures at Bracebridge Falls, where she once tumbled over the falls with a mix of excitement and acceptance of the bruises. She enjoyed many trips to sunny ocean destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico, with her final trip in 2019 spent with family. In her later years, Gloria embraced the vibrant coastal community of Sidney, which she adored.

Known for her strong will and loving nature, Gloria touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family and her vibrant spirit that brought joy to those around her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on October 5th, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion, 411 Gorge Road East, Victoria.
