October 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the quiet passing of Carol Heard at Saanich Peninsula Hospital on October 14, 2024, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, with her beloved husband of 54 years, Warren at her side.

Carolyne Anne Hay was born on July 12, 1941, at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver to parents, Grace and Hendry Hay.

Carol is survived by her husband Warren; sister and brother-in-laws, Gerry and Peter Snel; nephew Richard Parker; and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Hendry Hay; and brother Bob Hay. Carol grew up in Vancouver and moved to Victoria in her 20’s. She had a great and rewarding career at Capital Freightways Company and Hydroxyl Systems in Victoria and Sidney.

Carol and Warren loved the water and boating. They cruised the waters around the West Coast for over 35 years and for years called their boat home. Carol enjoyed line dancing, cross-stitching and cooking. She especially enjoyed volunteering in Sidney at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital with her doggies Muggins and Tillie bringing cheer to the patients, as well as at the Thrifty’s Foods Sendial Program and Beacon Community Thrift Store for 18 years.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital who took such good care and brought such comfort to Carol and Warren.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Sidney Cancer Society, etc.

I met Carol every Monday morning for the last three years for our Thrift Store shift. She was so kind and generous to me and the other volunteers as well as our customers. She brought goodies for coffee and shared her special recipes. I will miss her!
