Carrie was the 2nd of two children born to Albert Lawson and Jessie Townley of Borwick Lancaster, England. She enjoyed her childhood on her parent’s farm and often remembered the lambs she cared for every spring.
During WW2 Carrie worked for the Canadian Treasury where she met and married her husband Douglas Mitchell who was a Canadian serviceman stationed in England. After the war Doug and Carrie moved to London Ontario where they raised 2 children, Robert and Elizabeth.
After Doug retired they left Ontario for the more temperate climate of Vancouver Island, BC. When Doug passed away in September 2002 Carrie moved into an apartment in downtown Victoria , across from Beacon Hill Park.
Eventually failing health forced her last move to Resthaven Lodge in Sidney, BC where she celebrated her 100th birthday in 2024 with her 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren all in attendance.
Carrie passed away on January 28, just a few months before she could reach her 101st birthday.
Special thanks to all the caregivers at Resthaven Lodge who made her final years as comfortable as possible.
