Charles Fraser Davies

Charles Fraser Davies

After a long battle with aphasia, Charles Fraser Davies passed away peacefully at Sidney All Care, May 16, 2024, with Andrea, his devoted wife at his bedside.

Charles was born May 26, 1945 in Vancouver BC, to Beth (nee Wright) and Charles Edgar Davies. His father was a prominent eye surgeon, known as one of the top in BC and his mother a gifted pianist. His mother passed away when Charles was only eight and his late sister, Alison (McPhalen), was eleven. Given their exceptionally close bond, the loss was devasting and life changing. When his father remarried, step-children Peter and Kathryn Caverhill, became part of the blended family.

Charles grew up on Churchill Street, and then Pine Crescent and graduated in 1963 from Prince of Wales Secondary School where he developed lifelong friendships.

He was a thoughtful, intelligent and unpretentious man, who explored many interests during his life, including a love of travel, skiing, golfing, cycling, and even learning to fly. He owned and lived on a sailboat for many years, and became a meticulous, detail-oriented master craftsman in woodworking. He was a much sought after artisan in the finishing of yachts, owning his own company “Peninsula Total Boat Care”. He was also an artist and a skilled computer technologist.

Charles was an engaging raconteur and loved to gather with friends for coffee, sharing stories of his many travels and adventures. He met his wife Andrea (nee Cibulak) in early 1990’s, and they married in 2004, in Thunder Bay, ON, where Andrea grew up, and where her parents still resided.

He will be greatly missed by friends and family, especially Andrea’s sister, Anna and her husband, Russ, who often spent many memorable times with Charles and Andrea at backyard BBQ’s, dinners and celebrations, and wonderful visits to the Butchart Gardens! Charles and Andrea also enjoyed many visits with Andrea’s brother, Al, wife Anne Marie and daughter Emily, vacationing in Ontario and Victoria, as well as unforgettable cruises in the Caribbean.

Charles is survived by his wife, Andrea; step-brother Peter Caverhill (Linda), and cousins Carolyn Nicholson (Stan), Jeannie Reynolds, Margaret Stott (Philip Byrne), Mary Stott, Beth Horne (Mike) and many extended family members.

Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 9 at 12:30pm at SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive, in Sidney, BC. Please RSVP if you plan to attend at acib@telus.net or call 250.656.5924.

  • Anne Marie Cibulak -

We will miss ‘Uncle Charles’. From -hosting us in Sidney, to cruising the Caribbean, to playing billiards in Florida – Charles was always fun, caring and an interesting guy to chat with. He will rest in peace after his long illness and we’ll smile when we remember him. Anne Marie, Al and Emily

Charlie, as we called him in our household, was like family for years. He was good friends with my older brother Mike and as Mike’s little sister, I looked up to and admire both of them. Although I haven’t seen Charlie in years I know that he was a kind and loving family man and will be missed by many.
