David Collier passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice on Mar 22, 2023. He was pre-deceased by parents Arthur and Marion Collier in 2003 and 2007 and by brother Richard in November 2022. David is survived by sister Anne Collier (Tony Shepard), brother Allan Collier (Mary-Lynn Ogilvie) and sister-in-law Sharon Hume and by nieces Janet Welham, Marie Collier, Christina Otero, and Ella Collier and nephew Daniel Otero.
From his earliest days, David was a top student and fine swimmer. At UBC he graduated with a BA in Honours Economics and set a Canadian record while swimming with the Thunderbirds. In 1967 he won a CIBC- sponsored Centennial International Fellowship for study at York University, Harvard, Oxford, and the European Institute of Business (France). On graduating with an MBA in 1969, David began an 18-year career in banking, business development, and investment counselling that took him to major financial centres here and abroad.
In 1969 he worked for the Dresdner Bank (Frankfurt) followed by 3 years with the CIBC as representative for the US Midwest (Chicago) and at its International Division (London).
Between 1972 and 1974 he worked at Dominion Securities (Toronto) and Pemberton Securities (Vancouver). In 1974 he completed the Canadian Securities Course, achieving the highest mark in Canada out of 1600 students. From 1974-1978, David was with the Ministry of Economic Development (Victoria), also serving as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Minister.
In 1978, David was employed by the Dow Chemical Bank as Assistant Manager (London), Area Manager (Zurich) and Resident Representative, (Miami).
In 1982, David returned to BC to work at Vancity Credit Union where he was responsible for developing corporate lending and counselling businesses on Government assistance.
In 1986, he set himself up as an Economic and Small Business Consultant, retiring in 1988.
David was a long-time resident of the West End and for several years swam with friends in English Bay. From the mid 90s to 2016, he lived part-time in Puerto Escondido where he had built a winter getaway.
He will be remembered for his polite manner and engaging conversations about current affairs and world history. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice who looked after David so respectfully
