Delwyn Mary Hobson (Whalen, Delgleish) born January 14, 1967 in Auckland, New Zealand passed away March 14, 2021 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Her family moved from New Zealand to Edmonton in 1974 where she lost no time making friends. Never one to sit in the corner, Del lived her life out loud and in tie dye colour. Del sought to fulfill her lifelong wish to live on Vancouver Island, the home of Canadian hippy culture. She moved to Coombs, BC in 2020 with her partner Ernst Schranz. Del loved her life and her work on the island but dearly missed her family, especially her 4 grandchildren: Natyah, Mason, Nash, and Boston. She recently flew to Edmonton to visit and hold them close. After returning to the Island Delwyn suffered a fatal heart attack, her sudden loss has devastated friends and family alike. We cherish memories of the wild child, the rebellious teen, and the adventurous adult, a loving mother, grandmother, and partner. Del loved nothing more than to host family and friends; to gather around a fire, smoke, laugh, and share stories with those she held dear.
Delwyn is predeceased by her father, Rex Vernon Hobson but leaves to mourn; her mother, Marie-Louise Hobson, her two sisters, Bernadette (Trevor) and Anne. She is survived by her beloved children Pheadra (Dave) Carey and Steven Whalen (Teah Schram). She will be missed by her niece Kara Hobson and her family in New Zealand with whom she visited weekly via zoom.
I am so sorry to hear of Delwyn’s passing. I attended York Elementary and Steele Heiggts Junior High with Delwyn. I always remember her as being warm and friendly. She was always a pretty girl going up and one of the cool kids, too. I lost touch after graduating from M E LaZerte. Condolences to Bernadette who, if memory serves, had bright red hair!
oh Delly the memories RIP
