Gary Thomas Lenton: July 9, 1935 – Oct.3, 2023
Our family is saddened by the loss of our dear husband, father and granddad. Gary passed away at the Sidney Care Home, peacefully, after loving farewells surrounded by family.
Memories will be cherished by his wife, Joy of 50 yrs; daughter, Crystal(David); son, Jeffrey(Lisa); son, Darcy(Donna); grandchildren, Oliver, Isla, Naomi; sibling, Austin(Lynda); nephews, nieces; extended family. He was predeceased by parents and brother Brian.
Gary was born in Coronation, AB, moved to Victoria at age 3yr., graduating from Oak Bay High. He immediately entered the RCAF and became a Flying Officer(navigator) for his 6yr term. At his release, he settled in Winnipeg, training as a computer programmer, employed by Manitoba Medical, retiring from BC.Medical.
Gary and Joy married in 1973 in MB, moving to BC in 1981 with their daughter. Two sons born in Sidney, grateful they chose to live on the peninsula.
Sports was always a part of Gary’s life. In his youth he played baseball, cycled, tried hockey, later competitive 10 pin bowling, golfing, cycling, coaching, umpiring. A quote when recognized for his volunteer commitment in News Review, “What better place to be with my kids than right alongside on the field”.
Gary retired in 1996, truly enjoying family times, their love of sports, his love of cycling, reading and travel.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses and care staff at Sidney Care Home for their care of Gary.
No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peninsula Soccer Association or Sidney Little League.
So sad to hear the news of Gary’s passing. Deepest sympathy to you and your family Joy.
Thank you,
Joy and family
