James Barry Moyer

James Barry Moyer

On May 22, 1944, James “Jim” Moyer was born in Oklahoma to Kansas-born parents John and Mary (nee Streeter) Moyer. Jim, the youngest of the foursome, predeceased his three siblings. In February 2024, Jim was met with a sudden stage 4 cancer diagnosis that progressed rapidly, claiming his life on May 27, 2024, just 5 days after his 80th birthday. He is survived by his spouse Carmella Beazley, 2 grown children Devon (Nami) and Amy (Marty), grandson Maslow and ex-wife Myrna (nee Guenther).

Jim’s work journey started with his time in the Peace Corps followed by the US Navy. Next on the nautical path was a 19-year career with the BC Ferries where he started as a Deckard and retired as Chief Officer. From there, he went on to skipper the local boat to the Sidney Spit and local charters. Jim was a valued member of the Sidney seniors community and his presence filled any room he entered. He was a conversationalist and an avid reader, always eager to learn. He lived a full life and acknowledged how “good” it truly was multiple times in his final months. He was gracious, loving and strong-willed to the end. Forever in our hearts.
