Joyce Gibson

Joyce Gibson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Joyce Gibson. Joyce passed away peacefully in Saanichton Palliative Care ward on Thursday, November 19, 2020, where she was surrounded by her family. Born in Grand Prairie, Alberta, on November 25, 1937, Joyce moved to Calgary as a young child. In her early working years, Joyce was a billing clerk for Alberta Government Telephones and it was during this time, while on a bus heading to the States, Joyce met her long-time love and husband, Ken who were married for over 59 years. Work brought them to Edmonton in 1982 until they retired to Vancouver Island in 1995. Ken and Joyce raised three children, Kevin (Linda), Tara (John), and Todd (Shelley) who gave Joyce the grandchildren she adored, Landon, Grady, Kinley, Brandon, Stephanie, Logan, and Leah, and most recently a great-grandchild, Nora. As well as leaving behind her loving husband, sons, and daughter, she leaves her sister, Maureen, nephew Cameron, niece Courtney and great-niece, Sayde. Joyce was predeceased by her mother, Elsie, father, Lloyd Lightbody, her beloved brother, Dale, and an infant son, Randy who Joyce is now with. Joyce made a positive impact on everyone she met, and she especially enjoyed her time with her walking and coffee group. Her smiles, her sense of humor, and her big heart of gold will be remembered by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her. In lieu of flowers, Joyce has requested that donations be made to Saanichton Palliative Care Ward, Sidney, BC, in her name. Details of a Service for Joyce will be announced at a later date. We would like to say a special thank you to the Homecare and Palliative Care nurses for their care and compassion.
